Short history of the Domaine du Bané

1800: Bonaparte was not Napoleon yet. Birth of Joseph Rodet, ancestor of the current owner. The property has been in the family in direct line until this day. Construction during the century of an independent building called "cabote", which was apparently the first school of the village under Jules Ferry.

1918: Construction of the house next to the farm of Le Bané by François Joseph Rodet, the grandfather of the current owner.

1995: Back from a few years living in the USA, takeover of the family estate by the granddaughter of François-Joseph Rodet and her husband Rémy, Franco-Swiss, for their third life, with the approval of their daughter born in the USA. Beginning of the restructuring of the entire estate. The approach is deliberately ecological, in other words no monoculture but polyculture. Re-parcelling, extension of the walnut grove (AOP Grenoble walnuts), planting of groves and fruit trees, and preservation of nature throughout the estate.

2000-2012: Renovation and extension of all buildings, including a winery, cellar and other facilities essential to the production of quality wines.

2003: Pulling out the old traditional vines of the estate, hybrids of the region (Baccot, Clinton etc.) at the end of their life.

2004: Planting of the first plot of new vines. Syrah and Viognier grapes.

2005-2006: Back to school (wine university) for Rémy the winemaker!

2008: First harvest, a "garage wine".

2010: Creation of the equipped winery and first IGP Isère approval, Saint Sauveur 2010 vintage.

2011: First bottles on sale: 2009 reds (Syrah and blend) and 2010 white (Viognier).

2014: First participation in the national competition of Independent Winegrowers in Paris with the 2011 red blend cuvée François Joseph, a tribute to the grandfather. Rewarded with a bronze medal.

2013-2014: Tripling of the planted vineyard surface. Planting of new grape varieties. But it will take 3-4 years before their first wine!

2017: Opening of the new winery and tasting room. First harvest of the new Chardonnay, Petite Arvine and other varieties.

2018: First national certification with the HVE label for the Domaine du Bané including all its products (grapes, walnuts, cereals, fruit, natural meadows) in High Environmental Value at the 3rd level (the highest). A certification (reviewed each year and controlled by an independent body) which takes the 4 ecological criteria into account: biodiversity, water management, phytosanitary strategy (treatments) and soil management, therefore fertilization (manure) as well as tillage.
